How to Write Ethnography?

Ethnography word has origin from Greek; which is “Ethos” means folk, people, and “graphic” means to write an assignment. Define as the study and systematic recording of human cultures and their nature. In simple form we can say that it is a scientific description of people and culture with their customs, habits and mutual differences.

It has focus on research of human behavior and their experience. It is a specific type of written observational science which provides culture, society and communication information.

It is very time-consuming style of academic writing service. Research, data analysis and different methods of collecting the data take a lots time. The person who research about the ethnographic are called ethnographer. He lives with a certain type of community, to learn about their culture. Ethnographer research by observe the behavior and lifestyle of the people.

After research and observation ethnographic report can present into 3 different parts are-

Interpretive, Inclusive, Descriptive.

Steps for writing an Ethnographic report-

In early stage, you find it challenging to observe and research on human behavior and difficult to know about their culture. Here, are some tips and point which help you to make good and accurate report. 

1. Understanding Your Audience and Topic-

First time things you need to clear in your mind who is your target audience for whom you are doing this research. In research methodology targeted audience is called Universe. Report should be clear, catchy so that audience understands easily. Your report should have good briefing so that audience will understand easily. Good explanation of report will create reader attention. You should have a clear view of your goals and aim which lead you on a successful path.

Students Away from Their Targeted Community

As a researcher you should have targeted community or targeted group of people on which you are going to present report.

The Thesis Statement and Outline

Thesis is very important part of ethnography. It helps reader to understand the idea of research. All the research data you need to note it down on paper, when you write your report on a paper is called thesis statement. Thesis statement has its own theme on which researcher are working and finding the some logical points for a report effective for a reader. Thesis has all the important aspect which you have studied while doing research on topic. You can collect data from doing fieldwork like living with the community or group of people. Community daily routine, observe their lifestyle, engage with them personally to know them better. Interact with them, so that it will become easier for you.

Literature of Reviews

A literature review is essential for research because it helps you to gather an important data which available on books, internet. It also give a credibility to your work by analyzing the data by using techniques of research methodologies. This technique also help you write good and creative ethnographic descriptions.

Data Collection and Analysis

Data collection and Analysis tools helps you write an accurate ethnographic report. Data gathering and analysis has facts, figure which represents your report more authentic and original. You have a proof of your data in which you make decision for your thesis. You can do data collection and analysis by using these two techniques are-

Quantitative Research- It has all numeric data related to your report, facts which can be represented by different graphs and charts. It has closed ended questionnaires and surveys reports, Observation and experiment all are in numerical form.

Qualitative Research-

In this method, you have insight factors. Interviewing targeted audience by asking them open ended questions. It also has participatory observation

In this step you will analysis the gathered data for getting a result of an research. You may use social theories and thesis statement to interpret your data according to research. This step helps you to remove any unnecessary data which is not important for research.


Reflexivity defines as details of the research, in which you need to explain the study on which you are doing research. Ethnographic data has details of culture of a particular group. In reflexivity, you can differentiate your study from previous studies in the field. You can add your value points to your research. It removes all the misunderstanding data analysis.

Writing the Introduction and Conclusion

After a research data completed to need to show your thesis result which is a conclusion of the research. An introduction is the summarization of the report, Conclusion also provide reader you understand your thoughts. Conclusion result helps you to write thesis statement. Conclusion should be concise and to the point is should not be lengthy because reader may lose the interest in reading it.

The Final Draft

Proofreading and editing the error is most important task for a research. You should make sure that your research report appropriate and accurate according to the thesis. Final draft is the last step in research where you edit the error and correct the statement accurately.
