Tips for Digital Fall Cleaning

Tips for Digital Fall Cleaning

Did you know that you should clean your PC every three to six months? Unfortunately, while most people try to clean their PC every few months, only a limited number digitally clean it. And a digital deep clean is necessary if you want your PC to have better performance.

Today, we will give you some fall cleaning tips for your PC. By the end of this article, your PC will be running better than ever!

Delete Unused Files

To start your seasonal cleaning, you’ll want to delete any file or program you aren’t using. As time passes, these files, documents, and pictures begin to take up a lot of space on your PC. And eventually, these things will make your computer run slow to the point of not being able to use it properly.

One way to delete these files is by manually going through your files and deleting anything you don’t need. Of course, depending on the size of your hard drive, this may take several hours or even days. Fortunately, you can use duplicate finder programs to help you clean your PC a lot quicker.

If you’re not keen on the idea of deleting files, you can also zip them together. A zipped file is a lot smaller than normal, since they are all compressed to the smallest size they can get. You can also do this with pictures or videos, but the process may take longer than usual.

Uninstall Programs You Don’t Use

Next on your fall cleaning checklist are the programs you have on your PC. You can delete any program you haven’t used in the past six months, and that way, clear up space on your hard drive. If you have a Windows PC, you can check the last time you used a program by following these steps:

  •  Right-click the program’s icon
  •  Select “Properties” from the context menu
  •  Click the “General” tab
  •  Then “Accessed” property

There you’ll be able to see when you last used a program, which makes deleting programs a lot easier.

Clear Temporary Files Folder

The final step on your checklist is clearing the cache folder on your PC. If you didn’t know, a temporary cache file is created every time you visit a website or perform specific actions on your PC. These files are only there, so it’ll be quicker the next time you visit the website or perform the same action.

Here is what to do if you have a Windows PC:

  • Open the RUN program
  • Enter %temp%
  • Select all of the temporary files

Right-click and press delete

After doing this, be sure to empty your recycle bin to delete these files from your PC permanently. This is the best way you can digital deep clean your PC.

Follow This Fall Cleaning Checklist for Best Results

Digitally cleaning your PC is as important as physically cleaning it. Failing to clean it regularly can cause serious issues to your computer, leading you to replace it. So, don’t wait any longer to start your fall cleaning!
